ABSTRACT

Thermal conditions are an important environmental factor in maintaining healthy pigs because they affect feed intake, growth efficiency, reproduction and immune responses in pigs. RAVI, a regenerative far-infrared heating system, can effect pig production by emitting an optimal far-infrared wavelength. Far-infrared radiation has been reported to increase microvascular dilation and vascular flow volume. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immunobiological differences between pigs raised with the RAVI system and the gasoline heater system. Twenty-six-week-old weaned pigs were raised in two rooms that were equipped with a RAVI system or a gasoline heater for 8 weeks. A porcine atrophic rhinitis vaccine was administered after two weeks and transcriptome analysis in whole blood were analyzed at 2-week intervals. Signaling pathway analyses of the RAVI group at 8 weeks showed the activation of pathways related to nitric oxide (NO) production. This suggests that the application of RAVI might induce the production of NO and iNOS, which are important for increasing the immune activity. Similar to the result of microarray, phenotypic changes were also observed at a later period of the experiment. The increase in body weight in the RAVI group was significantly higher than the gasoline heater group at 8 weeks. The antibody titer against the vaccine in the RAVI group was also higher than that the gasoline heater group at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. This evaluation of the use of a far-infrared heating system with pigs will be helpful for applications in the pig farm industry and pig welfare.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, scientific theory was used to prove that the meridian was the resonant channel of information energy of life, and experiment and demonstration was performed to reveal meridians to explore the significance of revealing meridian. Based on the theory of physics, biochemistry, molecular biology and information theory, the essence of meridian was demonstrated in theory. According to TCM meridian theory, acupuncture was applied at selected acupoints; the infrared thermograms of stomach meridian of foot , large intestine meridian of hand , small intestine meridian of hand , pericardium meridian of hand , heart meridian of hand , triple energizer meridian of hand , liver meridian of foot , bladder meridian of foot were recorded before and after acupuncture. As a result, thermogram recorded and showed the visual image of the meridian. It is indicated that an energy transmission network which cannot be dissected existing in the body, which was believed to be meridian. It was the resonant channel of information energy of life, and could be shown by thermogram. These experiments and theory have significance in science.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the feasibility of fabricating a self-powered and implantable stimulator . Methods Based on pyroelectric effect and high penetrability of infrared ray , an implantable stimulator was designed and fabricated .The electrical performance of stimulator was measured under infrared ray illumination .We conducted the animal experiments in vitro and in vivo to observe the response of gastrocnemius contraction under stimulation .Results The stimulator could output the electrical signal under the periodical infrared ray illumination .The output voltage and current were proportional to the intensity of infrared ray ,which could reach up to 1 .2 V . A real-time electrical stimulation of frog gastrocnemius was conducted and obvious contraction was observed .The tension values increased with the increase of infrared intensity .We further carried out the in vivo experiment with a frog in order to evaluate the performance of the stimulator after being implanted into the body . The gastrocnemius would also be made to contract even though the infrared intensity decayed when through the skin .Conclusion The proposed pyroelectric stimulator can be self-powered and controlled through near-infrared illumination .This study can provide some guidance for solving the problems of implantable power .

ABSTRACT

Objective • To explore therapeutic effects of far-infrared radiation (FIR) therapy on chronic lower extremity lymphedema accompanied with dermatolymphangioadenitis (DLA), occurring after gynecological tumor resection. Methods • The enrolled patients received regular sessions using the FIR therapy machine over the 20-day treatment course (five days in each week). Clinical and laboratory outcome measures were carried out before and after treatment. Clinical outcome measures included DLA seizure frequency, patients' subjective feedback, quality of life, and side effects. Laboratory outcome measures included bacterial cultures and concentrations of in.ammatory cytokines, detected in serum and local lymphedema tissue.uid samples. Results • A total of 64 cases completed FIR treatment and clinical curative effect evaluation, including 11 cases at the same time completing the laboratory tests. The frequency of DLA decreased during treatment (P=0.000). The ef.ciency rate was more than 50% for 63 (98%) patients receiving treatment. Even 50 patients (78%) did not experience a single episode of DLA recurrence in the whole year after treatment. Patients reported a subjective decrease in lymphedema-related symptoms (all P<0.05), including tightness, heaviness, pain, hardness, soreness, discomfort, heat, fullness, weakness, and numbness. Patients' quality of life was improved after treatment (P=0.000). Laboratory analysis showed an elevation in serum concentration of IL-1β after FIR therapy (P<0.05) and reduction in local tissue.uid concentrations of IL-2, IL-10 and IL-18 (all P<0.05). Bacterial culture results were both negative before and after treatment. Conclusion • FIR therapy provides an effective treatment modality for patients with chronic lymphedema accompanied with DLA that develops secondarily from the treatment of gynecological malignancies, whose therapeutic effects may be due to reduce immune dysfunction within local lymphedema tissues.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The present study was intended to evaluate the effect of soldering techniques with infrared ray and gas torch under different gap distances (0.3 mm and 0.5 mm) on the tensile strength and surface porosity formation in Ni-Cr base metal alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty five dumbbell shaped Ni-Cr alloy specimens were prepared and assigned to 5 groups according to the soldering method and the gap distance. For the soldering methods, gas torch (G group) and infrared ray (IR group) were compared and each group was subdivided by corresponding gap distance (0.3 mm: G3 and IR3, 0.5 mm: G5, IR5). Specimens of the experimental groups were sectioned in the middle with a diamond disk and embedded in solder blocks according to the predetermined distance. As a control group, 7 specimens were prepared without sectioning or soldering. After the soldering procedure, a tensile strength test was performed using universal testing machine at a crosshead speed 1 mm/min. The proportions of porosity on the fractured surface were calculated on the images acquired through the scanning electronic microscope. RESULTS: Every specimen of G3, G5, IR3 and IR5 was fractured on the solder joint area. However, there was no significant difference between the test groups (P > .05). There was a negative correlation between porosity formation and tensile strength in all the specimens in the test groups (P < .05). CONCLUSION: There was no significant difference in ultimate tensile strength of joints and porosity formations between the gas-oxygen torch soldering and infrared ray soldering technique or between the gap distance of 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm.
